A plate of nigiri averages about 100 kcal, which makes sushi uniquely countable. Real numbers from three chains.
A plate of nigiri ≈ 100 kcal
Real data across Sushiro (avg 103), Hama Sushi (102) and Kura Sushi (106) makes the rule of thumb simple: one plate is about 100 kcal. A 600 kcal meal is six plates — or five plus miso soup.
Sides break the count
Ramen and fried sides run 300–600 kcal each; Sushiro’s tonkotsu-shoyu ramen alone is 560 kcal, worth five or six plates. Subtract plates accordingly, and mind salt past ten plates.
Figures in this article are aggregated from the 30,399 items across 191 chains we publish (as of 2026-09-18). Reference values follow Japan’s Dietary Reference Intakes (2020).
